Did you know? Every smile is different, even after treatment!
Lots of people have a bunch of dental problems at once. Each one needs special treatment to fix their teeth and make sure they bite right. These problems are called “bad bites” or “orthodontic malocclusions.”
When your teeth don’t line up right, it can cause all sorts of issues, like problems with your teeth, how you bite, and overall mouth health. Fixing a bad bite often means getting braces or other orthodontic treatment.
Different types of bad bites have their own causes and problems. But they all need attention to keep your teeth and mouth healthy. Dentists have lots of ways to treat these problems, like braces or other plans, to fix your bite and make your teeth healthier.
Having a misaligned bite can cause a range of problems, such as:
• Difficulty with chewing, biting, eating, or swallowing
• Breathing issues
• Digestive problems because of difficulty chewing food properly
• Pain in your teeth and/or jaw
• Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD)
• Speech difficulties, like lisps
• Teeth that are chipped or broken
• Changes in your facial appearance
• Buildup of plaque leading to cavities or bone loss
• Snoring, grinding teeth, or other sleep disturbances
• Strained lips due to teeth not being properly positioned
• Confidence and self-esteem issues
There might also be dental (tooth-related), skeletal (jaw-related), or a combination of both issues that need attention to achieve the best results. That’s why it’s crucial to have a thorough diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Without identifying all the issues, it’s impossible to achieve the best outcome.
Here are some clinical scenarios occur in both children and adults, if any of these conditions look similar to what you have, please contact our office and schedule a complimentary preliminary exam.

It's natural to want to understand the potential risks and complications associated with orthodontic treatment before beginning your journey. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities, so we're here to provide you with all the information you need to make informed decisions about your treatment.
While orthodontic treatment is generally safe, there are some potential risks and complications to be aware of. These can include temporary discomfort or soreness after adjustments, irritation of the soft tissues in your mouth, and minor changes in speech or eating habits as you adjust to your braces or aligners.
In some cases, more serious complications such as tooth decay, gum disease, or root resorption may occur, although these are rare and can often be prevented with good oral hygiene practices and regular visits to our office for check-ups.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Lee will thoroughly assess your oral health and discuss any potential risks or complications specific to your case. We'll also provide you with guidance on how to minimize these risks and address any concerns you may have.
What are the risks and complications?
Our goal is to ensure that your orthodontic treatment is as safe and successful as possible. If you have any questions or concerns about potential risks or complications, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to support you throughout your treatment journey.
Understanding the frequency of orthodontic appointments and the maintenance required during treatment is important for ensuring the success of your orthodontic journey.
Your appointment schedule will vary depending on your individual treatment plan and the type of orthodontic appliance you have. Typically, you can expect to visit our office every 4 to 8 weeks for adjustments and progress checks, with sometimes even extending to 12 weeks for aligner treatment. During these appointments, Dr. Lee will make any necessary adjustments to your braces or aligners to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
In addition to regular office visits, it's important to maintain good oral hygiene habits at home. This includes brushing and flossing regularly, as well as avoiding foods that could damage your braces or aligners. We'll provide you with personalized guidance on how to care for your
orthodontic appliance and keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout your treatment.
If you ever have any questions or concerns about your treatment schedule or maintenance requirements, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to support you every step of the way and ensure that your orthodontic treatment is as smooth and successful as possible.
Taking care of your oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment is crucial for the success of your journey, and we're here to provide you with all the guidance you need to maintain a healthy smile.
First and foremost, it's important to brush your teeth thoroughly after every meal and snack. This helps remove any food particles that may become trapped in your braces or aligners, reducing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. We'll provide you with special brushes and tools to help you clean around your braces or aligners effectively.
In addition to brushing, it's important to floss daily to remove plaque and debris from between your teeth and around your braces or aligners. We'll show you how to use floss threaders or special flossing tools to make this process easier.
It's also important to avoid foods that could damage your braces or aligners, such as hard or sticky foods. These can cause your braces to break or become loose, prolonging your treatment time.

Absolutely, it's completely normal to wonder how braces might affect your daily activities and hobbies, especially if you're active in sports or play musical instruments.
The good news is that having braces shouldn't prevent you from participating in sports or playing musical instruments. While it may take some time to adjust to wearing braces, you'll find that with a little practice, you can still perform just as well as before.
If you play sports, we recommend wearing a mouthguard to protect your teeth and braces from injury. We can refer you to buy a mouthguard that will comfortably fit over your braces and provide optimal protection during sports activities.
As for playing musical instruments, you may find that it takes some time to adjust to playing with braces. However, with practice and patience, you'll be able to play just as well as before. We can provide you with tips and techniques to make playing with braces more comfortable.
Ultimately, having braces is a temporary adjustment that will ultimately lead to a healthier, more beautiful smile. With a positive attitude and a little patience, you'll find that you can still enjoy all your favorite activities and hobbies while undergoing orthodontic treatment.
After your orthodontic treatment is complete, it's natural to wonder about what comes next and how to maintain the results you've achieved. We're here to guide you through the post-treatment phase and ensure that your smile remains beautiful for years to come.
Once your braces or aligners are removed, we'll provide you with retainers to help maintain the position of your teeth. Retainers are custom-made to fit your teeth and are typically worn full-time initially, gradually transitioning to nighttime wear as directed by Dr. Lee.
It's important to wear your retainers as instructed to prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original position. We'll provide you with tips and guidance on how to care for your retainers to ensure their effectiveness and longevity.
In addition to wearing retainers, it's important to continue practicing good oral hygiene habits, including brushing and flossing regularly and attending regular check-ups with your dentist. This will help ensure that your smile remains healthy and beautiful for years to come.
If you ever have any questions or concerns about post-treatment care or retention options, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to support you every step of the way and ensure that your smile remains radiant long after your orthodontic treatment is complete.
